Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On July 9, 2007, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because the Canadian International Development Agency considered providing financial assistance to the proponent.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

The construction will incorporate classrooms, latrines and an office area. The building will be a single story stand-alone utilizing light gauge steel load-bearing walls, light gauge steel truss roof structure, a reinforced concrete foundation and concrete slab floor. There will be a children's playground where such land is available. The building surface will be more than 300m square covered area; more than 5 meters in height, and possibly with water bodies within 30m diameter of the proposed school site.

Final Decision

A decision was taken on May 13, 2009 and was that the authority may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the screening report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures, the authority is of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
