Péribonka Hydroelectric Facility (Archived)

Description: Hydro-Québec has submitted a proposal to build a hydroelectric facility of approximately 450 megawatts on the Péribonka River, north of Lake Saint-Jean. The facility would be located at kilometre 152 of the Péribonka River, immediately upstream of its confluence with the Manouane River. In addition to the power plant equipped with 3 Francis units, the facility includes a dam 80 metres in height and two main embankments, a reservoir approximately 33 km long, a flood spillway and a temporary diversion gallery with a capacity of approximately 2000 m 3/s.
Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On April 7, 2004, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authority for appropriate next steps.
