Quality Assurance Program

The federal government's Quality Assurance Program for environmental assessments was established in accordance with the 2003 amendments to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The amended legislation required the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) to lead the program and required federal departments and agencies, Crown corporations and port authorities to co-operate with the Agency in delivering the program.

The program, which addressed both compliance and quality considerations, had two underlying goals: co-operative pursuit of continuous improvement of the quality of assessments; and ongoing identification of possibilities for improving policies, procedures and legislation.
