Introduction to the Impact Assessment Act, 2019

Goal

This course provides participants with an overview of the Impact Assessment Act, 2019 (IAA 2019) and its regulations. It also introduces the environmental assessment (EA) process and the requirements that apply to projects for which the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) is the responsible authority and when the Agency supports EAs by Review Panel.

Ideal Participants

  • Individuals who are or will be involved with the EA of a designated project under IAA 2019.
  • Individuals who have an interest in understanding IAA 2019 and its application to projects for which the Agency is the responsible authority and when the Agency supports EAs by Review.

Outcomes and Benefits

The course will:

  • provide participants with an overview of the key elements of IAA 2019 and its regulations;
  • help participants understand when a federal EA is required under IAA 2019; and
  • inform participants about how the Agency conducts EAs when it is the responsible authority and supports EAs by Review Panel.
