Hardrock Gold Mine Project — Public Comments Invited & Information Sessions

August 21, 2017 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is conducting a federal environmental assessment of the proposed Hardrock Gold Mine Project, located in Ontario.

The Agency invites the public and Indigenous groups to comment on the potential environmental effects of the project and the proposed measures to prevent or mitigate those effects as described in a summary of the proponent's Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

This is the third of four opportunities for the public to comment on this project. All comments received will be considered public.

Written comments in either official language must be submitted by October 6, 2017 to:

Information Sessions

Information sessions on the Hardrock Gold Mine Project and the EIS will be held in September. The Agency will be making a presentation and will be available to answer questions regarding the environmental assessment process. The proponent will also be attending and will be available to answer questions on the project.

The Proposed Project

Greenstone Gold Mines is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning, and abandonment of an open-pit gold mine and on-site metal mill located approximately five kilometres south of Geraldton, Ontario, at the intersection of Highway 11 (Trans-Canada Highway) and Michael Power Boulevard. As proposed, the gold mine would have an ore production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per day, and the metal mill would have an ore input capacity of 30,000 tonnes per day.
