Northern Gateway Pipeline Project – Phase IV
Federal Funding Allocated to Support Aboriginal Participation in Reviewing the Joint Panel Report

OTTAWA, January 20, 2014 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has allocated a total of $433,330 to 31 Aboriginal applicants in Alberta and British Columbia to support their participation in consultation activities related to the environmental assessment process of the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline Project.

This Aboriginal funding is allocated through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency and is intended to support the participation of Aboriginal groups in the review and to comment on the Joint Review Panel Report – Phase IV of the environmental assessment process.

To support Aboriginal groups' participation, the Agency's Participant Funding Program has allocated just over $3.9 million in participant funding at four different phases in the environmental assessment process.

A funding review committee, independent of the panel review process, was established to assess the requests for funding.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the potential environmental effects of proposed projects and identifies measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
