DECISION

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) have taken the following course of action on July 10, 2018, relating to the comprehensive study of the North American Lithium Spodumene Mine Project. DFO may exercise its powers with respect to the project because, pursuant to section 37 of the former Act, after taking into consideration the comprehensive study report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and the follow-up program, the authority is of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project for the following environmental components:

  • Atmospheric environment;
  • Water quality;
  • Fish and fish habitat;
  • Birds and bird habitat;
  • Current use of lands and resources for traditional purposes.

A follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the adverse environmental effects is required for this project.
