The Proposed Project

ExxonMobil Canada Ltd. is proposing to conduct an exploration drilling project within its offshore exploration license in the Carson Basin, located approximately 300 kilometres east of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, in the Atlantic Ocean. As proposed, Southeastern Newfoundland Offshore Exploration Drilling Project would allow the proponent, over a 10-year period, to determine the presence, nature, and quantities of the potential hydrocarbon resource in exploration license 1136. Should additional exploration licences be acquired by the proponent, these may be incorporated into the environmental assessment should the Agency determine that one is required.
