St. Lawrence Fluorspar Marine Shipping Terminal Project — Public Comments Invited

June 10, 2019 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) must decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposed St. Lawrence Fluorspar Marine Shipping Terminal Project, located in Mine Cove, Little Lawn Harbour, along the western border of the Town of St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador.

To help inform this decision, the Agency is seeking comments from the public and Indigenous groups on the project and its potential effects on the environment, as described in the summary of the project description.

All comments received will be considered public. Written comments in either official language must be submitted by June 30, 2019 to:

The Proposed Project

Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc. is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning and reclamation of a marine shipping terminal located in Mine Cove, Little Lawn Harbour, along the western border of the Town of St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador. As proposed, the St. Lawrence Fluorspar Marine Shipping Terminal Project would allow for the exportation of 200,000 tonnes of acid-grade fluorspar concentrate and 2 million tonnes of construction aggregate per year. The project includes a waste-rock crushing plant, radial arm stockpiling system, aggregate stockpiles, concentrate storage buildings, access and haul roads, a wharf and ship-loader, and a 350-metre long rock-filled breakwater.
