Cates Park Foreshore Erosion Protection Project - Public Comments Invited

October 7, 2019  – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Cates Park Foreshore Erosion Protection Project, located near 4141 Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver, British Columbia, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The District of North Vancouver proposes to protect the shoreline at Cates Park from further erosion by depositing sand and gravel on the intertidal foreshore. The materials would replace the previously imported materials which have been lost to erosion from wave action and would protect the upland shoreline and headland from further erosion. The sand and gravel would be brought to the site by truck and placed on the shoreline, from upland areas, using slinger trucks. Materials would be placed at Roche Point and at the sandy beach area located approximately 60 metres west of Roche Point.
