Notice determination

December 19, 2019 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Wahnapitae First Nation New Housing Project - 5 New Homes and 7 Lots Servicing is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • The new homes will have a positive impact on the community, creating adequate housing for community members
  • Septic systems will be inspected and approved by a licensed community environmental health officer from Health Canada

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Increased amount of solid waste – waste will be segregated and disposed of in an approved waste landfill at the Greater Sudbury landfill
  • Fuel related spills – spill kits will be made available and on hand during work
  • Homes will be designed and constructed utilizing the most current provincial and federal building standards for residential homes

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
