Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Provide Power to Troop Shelters at Garrison Wainwright

 

April 30, 2020 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project to Provide Power to Troop Shelters at Garrison Wainwright is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

This project involves the provision of power to the Troop Shelters at various locations within the Range and Training Area of Garrison Wainwright. Specifically:
· Gas Hut - trenching cable below-ground 42m in a new corridor (the original power was overhead)
· Range 1 - installing 3-phase power to intersection (underground) and single phase power to Range 1 troop shelter
· Range 3 - trenching 30m of cable underground
· Range 6 and 8 - extend overhead from Building 457; create new utility right-of-way to bring power to Range 6 and Range 8; tree removal is required
