Notice of Time Limit Resumption

Ottawa — May 29, 2020 — On May 28, 2020, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) resumed the 180-day time limit for the Planning Phase under the Impact Assessment Act for FortisBC Holdings Inc.'s (the proponent) Tilbury Phase 2 LNG Expansion Project. This action is being undertaken cooperatively with British Columbia's Environmental Assessment Office, in support of the Impact Assessment Cooperation Agreement Between Canada and British Columbia (2019).

The time limit for the engagement period prior to the start of a public comment period has been suspended since March 27, 2020, at the request of the proponent in order to recognize the ongoing circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts to communities, businesses and stakeholders. In the coming days, the public and Indigenous groups will be invited to review the summary of the initial project description and provide feedback related to the proposed project and British Columbia's request that if a federal impact assessment is required, that its conduct be substituted to the province.
