The Proposed Project

This project will refurbish the existing Wright's Cove East-West magnetic range. 16 sub-sea legacy analog search coils will be replaced by modern digital magnetometers. The magnetometers will be connected via fiber-optic cables (80 metre and 120 metre length cables) to a sub-sea Power Supply and Data Transmitter positioned close to the middle magnetometers (between pedestal 7 & 8). A new fiber optic backbone cable will be laid between the Power Supply and Data Transmitter and the Wright's Cove Range building on shore (approximately 1600 metres of cable that is about 28.6 millimetres in diameter). The legacy copper backbone cable will not be removed from the seabed. It has been there for approximately 20 years. The cables that connected the search coils to this backbone will be removed.
