Notice of intent to make a determination

Kehewin Treatment Centre - 2020-3825 – Public Comments Invited

September 30, 2020 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Kehewin Treatment Centre - 2020-3825 located in 54.1156813485, -110.851984763 is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The Kehewin Treatment Centre will fill a need for shelter and access to social resources for the Kehewin Cree Nation.

Proposed site: On reserve lands directly east beside the Kehewin Health Centre, near Eagles Landing Convenient Store along the north side of Highway 657.

"Construction" includes placing 6 ATCO trailers from ATCO Structures on the empty grass lot (previously disturbed) within the core area of the community.

The trailers will serve as a quarantine zone by providing shelter, access to social resources, access to water, sanitary services, a kitchen, heating and energy, and connectivity and communications.

Site preparation includes all above ground works including placement of the trailers and above ground utility services. Project plans including preferred trailer placement is developed in consultation with the community. First Nation Housing Department is helping the Kehewin Cree Nation with the Treatment Centre project.
