Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Deconstruction of 12 Buildings, Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot (CFAD) Bedford, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax, Nova Scotia

October 21,  2020 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

DND is proposing to carry out deconstruction of the following 12 buildings located within the administrative area of CFADBedford: BM30/33, BM89, BM154, BM156, BM157, BM158, BM159, BM161, BM163, BM165, BM166 and BM167. Building footprints range from approximately 10 square metres (m2) to 550 m2. The proposed project is expected to consist of hazardous materials abatement, building demolition including removal of below grade structures, offsite disposal of hazardous and construction and demolition (C&D) waste and backfill/site restoration activities. Deconstruction activities are planned to commence Fall/Winter 2020/2021.
