Notice of Determination for Deschambault Lake Diesel Generating Station

January 14, 2021 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Deschambault Lake Diesel Generating Station is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

-a Band Council Resolution from Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation authorizing site access and remediation be completed by SaskPower -the remediation will clean up the existing contamination identified in the Phase II environmental site assessment and Corrective Action Plan
 -no comments were received from the public about the project
 -mitigation measures are required for the project

Implementation of the following mitigation measures are required for the project:

-Sediment and erosion control measures are implemented as required
-SaskPower has Best Management Practices that will be followed for refueling and spill response. All spills must be reported to relevant federal, provincial and municipal government departments
-impacted soil will be excavated and transported to a Class II landfill
 -lab certified clean fill material will be used to back fill after removal of impacted soil 
-Site access will be restricted to authorized workers only with adequate training
 -In addition to these mitigation measures, please ensure that the project meets or exceeds all municipal, provincial and federal laws, codes, standards as applicable.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
