Notice of Determination

February 19, 2021 – The Halifax Port Authority has determined that the proposed Fairview Cove Truck Gate and Container Examination Facility is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • Project vehicles will be required to adhere to safely designated speed limits and all posted signage on the roadway.
  • Vehicles used will be maintained in good working order and will be equipped with appropriate noise reducing equipment like mufflers to reduce noise. Site lighting will be designed to reduce potential for spill-over light and unnecessary light pollution.
  • Site grading will be adjusted so that all existing granular material will be incorporated into the new works.
  • Silt fences will be installed around the perimeter of the Project site to prevent silt-laden water, and debris from entering the marine environment.
  • Waste from warehouse and gatehouse construction will be segregated and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. Trash and debris will be removed from the site and properly stored to prevent material from entering the marine environment.

Halifax Port Authority is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, the Halifax Port Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
