 The Proposed Project

The objectives of the initial testing program are to determine the actual environmental risks associated with solid waste storage at eleven sites and to remove all above ground waste. These parcels of land are suspected to be previous illegal dumping sites for household and community waste. The first activity to occur on the sites is a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey to map the waste in the ground. The results of this survey will show the areas of potential concern at the sites and will aid in selection of test hole and test pit locations required to assess these materials. The second component includes drilling investigations, test pitting, and soil and groundwater sampling. The third component is the removal of the above ground waste at the sites and the fourth component involves preparing reports to will evaluate the historical data and the results of the intrusive site investigation. These will include the results of the investigation including the field program and observations, analysis of test results and recommendations, risk management or other corrective measures for each site. The objective of this project is the decommissioning of identified solid waste sites within Lac La Ronge First Nation reserve land.
