Proposed Project

In support of ongoing operations at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) the Telecommunications and Carrier Services Main Point of Presence (MPOP) Project is proposing the installation of approximately 7 km of new fibre-optic cables and copper line at CNL's Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's Chalk River Laboratories (CRL) location.  The cable will run from the Chalk River property line on Plant Road to the built up area of the CRL site.  The installation will be performed using directional boring and excavation will occur only within the existing road bed and right-of-way of Plant Road.  No tree clearing will occur as a result of these Project activities and no water bodies will be impacted.  The installation will include in-ground splice point structures as well as telecommunications pedestals for potential future access points. Atomic Energy of Canada Limited is the federal authority as defined in the Impact Assessment Act.
