Miscellaneous Fencing Projects, 5 Wing Goose Bay

July 6, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project which will provide required security for subject facilities at 5 Wing Goose Bay. Perimeter fence around gravel stockpile yard will be approximately 180 m long and 90 m wide. Perimeter fence around the MEOSAR facility will be approximately 33 m long and 33 m wide. The chain-link fence will consist of 2.74-meter-high fence fabric above ground level, with additional 0.3m of barbed wire overhang top and 0.3m of fence fabric will be buried below ground level. At the project location for perimeter fence around gravel stockpile yard, project will also include relocation of the existing ATV /snowmobile groomed trail. Where necessary, limited amount of shrub vegetation and trees will be removed.
