Notice of intent to make a determination

Naicatchewenin Watermain Replacement Project Public Comments Invited

August 17, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Naicatchewenin Watermain Replacement Project, located in Naicatchewenin First Nation / Rainy Lake Reserve 17A is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Naicatchewenin First Nation is located in Northwestern Ontario on Rainy River Lake (Northwest Bay), approximately 70 km northwest of Fort Frances. The project includes replacement of an approximately 150 m long section of watermain located under the Footprint River (Whitehorse River) associated with the water distribution system upgrade to support the community's fire protection.
