Matachewan New Housing Construction Project – Public Comments Invited

October 26, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Matachewan New Housing Construction Project, located in Matachewan First Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Matachewan First Nation is located in Northeastern Ontario, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of the town of Matachewan and 60 kilometers west of Kirkland Lake. The project includes the construction of two (2) new pre-fabricated three-bedroom single-family housing units. The housing construction is occurring on undeveloped land and will have individual septic systems, and connect to the existing water lines in the community.
