The Proposed Project

Sweetgrass New School

Project is the construction of a new 3,871 m2 K-12 school for Sweetgrass First Nation, located on the core community on Sweetgrass Reserve No. 113 on NE Section 5, Township 44, Range 19, west of third meridian.

The building is designed for an expected population of about 220 students and staff.  It includes a daycare centre of 248 m2 and a Headstart facility of 221 m2.  The project includes a parking lot, access road, playing fields, outdoor hockey rink, and playgrounds.  The building is designed for an expected lifespan of 50 years.  Water, sewer, gas and electric utilities will be extended to the building from existing buried infrastructure under an adjacent roadway.  The site covers an area of 6.6 hectares and is located within the existing core community.

The project is expected to generate normal construction waste, which will be disposed of off-reserve, at a Regional Landfill or hazardous waste disposal facility.
