The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project to install and operate a temporary boiler and associated aboveground fuel storage tank to provide steam to Navy vessels alongside during periods when steam from the Central Heating Plant is not available (summer shut down, approximately May to October). The temporary boiler and fuel storage tank may be installed within 30 metres of the Halifax Harbour at various jetties depending on the operational requirement. Navy vessels may include any of the Halifax Class frigates, Marine Coast Defence Vessels, Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels, and others. The capacity of the fuel storage tank is not expected to exceed 2,500 litres.
