Harken Towing - HT20 Storage Grounds Pile Relocations – Public comments invited 

April 12, 2022 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Harken Towing - HT20 Storage Grounds Pile Relocations, Water lot fronting Tannery Park, Surrey is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by May 11, 2022. 

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project 

Fraser River Pile and Dredge (GP) Inc., working on behalf of Harken Towing Co. Ltd., proposes to relocate nine (9) 914-millimetre diameter steel piles from their lower storage grounds to their upper storage grounds and replace two (2) damaged 914-millimetre diameter steel piles, like for like, at the upper storage grounds. The purpose of the Project is to provide additional support to mooring barges at the upper storage grounds.  

Piles within the lower storage grounds will be extracted and placed on a barge and transported to the upper storage ground for installation. Piles will be relocated using a marine spud derrick equipped with a vibratory hammer.  

The project is anticipated to be completed within approximately two days.
