The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which consists of upgrades to the existing facility, which is approximately 21 years old, including the bullpen and staging area. The existing Amiens Range includes firing lines, troop shelters and tower, access road and gates, drilled/monitoring wells, concrete culverts, target mound, lane markers, earth butt stop, bullet catchers, bullpen, staging area, and berms and is used by the DND for training purposes. The Project footprint is anticipated to remain primarily in the current facilities footprint. The Project will consist of the following activities:

  • Demolition and reconstruction of the existing butt stop such that the geometry complies with the latest DND standards, including the installation of a new base clay liner and bioswale;
  • construction of firing lines positions including placing common fill, grading, topsoil and hydroseed;
  • replacement of the existing bullet catcher and lane markers;
  • installation of concrete firing vaults at the 100 meter and 400 meter firing positions; and
  • repair of the vaults at the 200 meter and 300 meter positions.
