Notice of intent to make a determination

Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation Waste Transfer Station– Public Comments Invited

July 6, 2022 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation Waste Transfer Station, located in Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The project includes the construction of a new community waste transfer station. The waste transfer station will be a fenced 110m x 95m granular pad with an elevated waste drop-off platform and waste bins, Bins for household recycling, bunkers for household white goods, tires, furniture and containers to collect hazardous waste, E-waste, batteries and other recyclables as the program in the community develops.

 

During the planning and design phase, a topographic site survey along with a geotechnical investigation were undertaken. During the construction phase, equipment in operation to construct the facility will consist of standard earth moving trucks/equipment for grading and retaining wall installation.

The following is a summary of site works items associated with the construction of the new

facilities:

 

•             General site grading (cutting/filling);

•             Construction of a 110m x 95 m granular site pad;

•             Construction of 250m of granular access road off provincial road 201

•            Installation of a trailer and other site structures such as hazardous waste and e-waste storage containers;

•             Forming and shaping of drainage swales and ditches; and

•             Construction of a steel retaining wall.

•             Garage wood frame superstructure

•             Perimeter chain link fencing
