Redevelopment of parking areas, Pointe-de-l'Est National Wildlife Area – Public Comments Invited

July 19, 2022 – The Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment and Climate Change Canada (CWS-ECCC) must determine whether the proposed redevelopment of parking areas in the Pointe-de-l'Est National Wildlife Area in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine is likely to cause significant adverse effects on the environment.

In order to contribute to an informed determination, the CFS-ECCC invites the public to provide comments on this determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

Written comments must be submitted by August 18, 2022 to:

The Proposed Project

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) wishes to reorganize the parking lots and reception areas of the Échouerie and the Camarine, in order to improve the visitor experience. Indeed, they face certain problems in terms of cramped space making parking maneuvers difficult, especially since the parking limits are irregular and poorly defined.

The new facilities will include the following:

Camarine sector:

• Expansion of the parking lot in a wetland;
• A wooden reception terrace with a view of the bog;
• An information panel with trail map and regulations;
• Installation of ridges;
• A compost toilet with aeration chimney (later phase).

Échouerie sector:

• Expansion of the parking area (very close to a wetland);
• A wooden reception terrace with a view of the bog;
• An information panel with trail map and regulations;
• Installation of ridges;
• A compost toilet with aeration chimney (later phase).
