Federal Building Initiative - 101 Colonel By Drive – Public Comments Invited

August 31, 2022 – The authorities must determine whether the proposed Federal Building Initiative - 101 Colonel By Drive, located in Ottawa is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the authorities are inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

The Federal Building Initiative project will involve:

- A lighting retrofit throughout the building for base building lighting, including lobbies, office areas, washrooms, stairwells, exit signs, service areas and loading dock.

- Recalibration of the HVAC systems to optimize energy consumption.

- Upgrades to washroom water fixtures for water conservation.

- Installation of heat pumps in various mechanical rooms to recover and transfer heat from various sources to the building space.

- Installation of a fixed photo-voltaic (PV) electricity generation system on the roof of the building.

- Installation of a battery energy storage system mounted at ground level.

 

The purpose of this project is to reduce utility costs, reduce GHG emissions, and upgrade related facility infrastructure as related to the above measures.
