WWTP Outfall Project Habitat Offsetting – Public comments invited

September 7, 2022 As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed WWTP Outfall Project Habitat Offsetting, located on the north side of Annacis Island, adjacent to the 1400 Block of Cliveden Avenue, Delta, B.C.,  is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by October 6, 2022.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

Envirowest Consultants Inc. on behalf of Metro Vancouver's Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District is proposing to construct a 250 square metre marsh channel, marsh bench and intertidal mudflat on the north side of Annacis Island adjacent to the 1400 Block of Cliveden Avenue, Delta, BC as part of a Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada Fisheries Act Authorization habitat offsetting project.

The Project will consist of the following

  • Removal of invasive species and two black cottonwood trees
  • Removal of a grounded derelict wooden barge and construction of a marsh channel
  • Construction of a marsh bench and intertidal mudflat
  • Planting of native sedge, tree and shrub species

Project works within the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's jurisdiction are limited to the marsh bench and intertidal mudflat construction and planting.
