The Proposed Project
This project aims to facilitate the construction of the landfill access road as well as the landfill construction at Keewaywin First Nation.
- Constructing an access road (approximately 6 km) to the new landfill site with appropriate drainage.
- Clean-up and closure of the existing landfill site, and other waste disposal sites that were identified during the Keewaywin First Nation Solid Waste Management Study.
- Constructing a new landfill site with the following features:
- Waste storage cell sized to accommodate 20 years of waste, with room for future expansion
- Waste diversion areas (i.e., for hazardous waste, white goods, tires, e-waste, etc.)
- Groundwater monitoring wells
- Perimeter fencing around the site with gated entry
- Fire break (buffer around the cell with no trees)
- Stormwater pond and drainage ditches to direct and collect surface water
