Mushuau Innu First Nation School Expansion and Renovation – Public Comments Invited

March 7, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Mushuau Innu First Nation School Expansion and Renovation, located in Natuashish, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

The project includes the expansion and renovation of the Mushuau Innu First Nation (MIFN) School, located in Natuashish, NL. The project consists of 1445m2 of renovated space and a 1281m2 expansion at the North and South ends of the school. The expansion includes additional classrooms, washrooms, mechanical/electrical rooms, science lab, office space, day care and dental clinic.

Activities include 1617m2 of clearing and grubbing, construction of the north and south extensions, connection into existing municipal sewer services, including a new manhole; two new fire hydrants and water lines, relocation and modification to the existing perimeter road, relocation and modification of drainage and storm services, new concrete and gravel walkways, landscaping and new utility poles and lines.
