Notice determination

March 23, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Mathias Colomb Cree Nation Water Treatment Plant Upgrade is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

• Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
• Indigenous knowledge;
• community knowledge;
• comments received from the public;
• mitigation measures.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

• surface water, groundwater and soil;
• air quality and noise;
• vegetation;
• wildlife including migratory birds; and
• socio-economic, cultural and heritage.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.
