April 5th, 2023 – Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) must determine whether the proposed Sandy Lake Cultural Area, located inSandy Lake, ON is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this determination, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project
Sandy Lake First Nation will establish a new cultural area including an outdoor celebration area, traditional fire places, women's longhouses, and seating areas. This accessible outdoor space will allow community members to participate in cultural celebrations and traditional teachings. The area will be adjacent to Sandy Lake, and docks will be added to promote traditional fishing.
