The proposed project

The project involves demolishing the Transport Canada hangar located in the northern portion of the La Tabatière wharf, at coordinates 50.838525° and -58.973235°. A technical assessment carried out in 2020 concluded that the building was no longer safe for use due to the precarious stability of its foundations. Transport Canada does not wish to rebuild the building, as its location will allow the area to be used for loading and unloading cargo from the service vessel.

According to available information, there is no asbestos in the building. However, a characterization of the debris will be carried out on site and managed in accordance with current regulations. Demolition debris and excavated soil will be stored in containers and transported by boat to an accredited site. Excavations will be backfilled with fill from an accredited borrow pit, and a concrete slab will be constructed on the surface affected by the work. Soils excavated for the concrete slab will be characterized on site and managed in accordance with current regulations.
