Notice of intent to make a determination

MiChigeeng First Nation - Waste Transfer Station  – Public Comments Invited

October 20, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Waste Transfer Station project, located in M'Chigeeng, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

M'Chigeeng First Nation is located in the Manitoulin District of Ontario. This project includes the construction of a new waste transfer station, located adjacent and directly accessible to Highway 540. The proposed Waste Transfer Station include an Attendant's Facility, roll off bins for wastes, new concrete storage areas for scrap metal, tires, leaf and yard wastes and bulky wastes, alongside a hazardous waste disposal container, as well as electronic waste and used oil storage tanks. The proposed facility will have reinforced concrete pads, and concrete block walls. The selected Waste Transfer Station is designed to accommodate the communities waste needs over the next 30 years.
