East promenade renewal – Canada Place – Public comments invited

May 17, 2024 As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed East promenade renewal – Canada Place, located at 999 Canada Place, Vancouver, are likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by June 15, 2024.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA, the Applicant) is responsible for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Canada Place east promenade located at 999 Canada Place (the Project) in Vancouver.

The work generally includes rehabilitation and upgrade of the east promenade deck topping and waterproofing membrane. The promenade serves as the roof of interior space below. The following items have been identified as requiring rehabilitation / upgrade:

  • Remove and replace the promenade topping and waterproofing membrane.
  • Remove and replace the existing expansion joints;
  • Remove and replace the existing deck and planter drains;
  • Remove and replace the waterproofing membrane at the perimeter planters;
  • Restore the perimeter planters to match the previous CPC restorations;
  • Associated landscaping upgrades for the area;
  • Associated plumbing upgrades for the area;
  • Associated electrical upgrades for the areas; and
  • Associated security gate upgrades and remediation.

There may be small machinery such as a mini excavator used for the work. There will be delivery trucks, cranes, forklifts, concrete trucks, etc. used as a part of the work. These vehicles may occasionally be set up on the Canada Place dock level apron.
