May 23, 2024 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to complete renovations, including hazardous material abatement, at building RA3 at Royal Artillery Park, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax. The scope of work includes:

  • Performing comprehensive removal, cleaning, and decontamination of hazardous material.
  • Removing and securing conditioned storage of existing furniture, equipment, artifacts, and collection.
  • Selective demolishing of exterior and interior building components and systems.
  • Demolishing, removing, and relocating existing architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical items.
  • Replacing main electrical overhead service to building and installing new underground services.
  • Replacing fire alarm systems.
  • New fire protection sprinkler system.
  • Replacing roofs with new revised roofing configurations.
  • Replace windows.
  • Replace ceiling.
  • Replace plaster and gypsum board.
  • New doors and renovations to existing doors.
  • Revise millwork.
  • Renovations to washrooms, service spaces, and kitchenette.
  • New flooring and wall finishes.
  • Site grading and installation of new sidewalks, ramps, and guardrails.
  • Underground work to revise services.
  • Replacement of plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems.
