Public Notice

December 11, 2025 – Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada must determine whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

Written comments must be submitted by January 10, 2026 to contact identified on the project page.

The Proposed Project

Telus Communications Inc. plans to install fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to four (4) residential homes in Duncan Lake No. 2 (Wet'suwet'en First Nation), two (2) residential homes in Babine No. 25 (Lake Babine Nation), four (4) residential homes in Jean Baptiste No. 28 (Witset First Nation) and four (4) residential homes in Poison Creek No. 17A (Ts'il Kaz Koh) in British Columbia.

The project involves the installation of approximately eleven (11) km of underground or aerial fiber optic cable as follows:

- Three (3) km in Duncan Lake No. 2 (Wet'suwet'en First Nation).

- Three (3) km in Babine No. 25 (Lake Babine Nation).

- Four (4) km in Jean Baptiste No. 28 (Witset First Nation).

- One (1) km in Poison Creek No. 17A (Ts'il Kaz Koh).

The cable will be buried by directional drilling, trenching, or using existing conduits, or a combination of these methods in existing roadway alignments, or will be suspended on support structures to connect to residential homes and businesses.
