Notice determination

January 13, 2026 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Wastewater Systems Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Mitigation measures proposed for the project during construction activities have been prepared and review by ISC.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Erosion control measures will be put into place, such as silt fencing adjacent from earthwork areas, and re-seeding in disturbed areas and along waterways. Fuel spill cleanup kits will be located on the construction site and any spills will be reported to Ontario Spills Action Centre.

  • Forest clearing works will be completed outside of bird nesting periods. The DFO measures to protect fish and fish habitat and codes of practice will be followed for any in water works and culvert installations.

  • Potential nuisance dust will be mitigated by watering dry areas and roadways during earthworks.

  • Noise impacts to residents will be temporary during the pipe installation works will only occur during daylight hours.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
