Order Designating Physical Activities

Whereas, De Beers Canada Inc. is proposing to develop the Victor Mine Extension Project, which is an expansion of the existing Victor Diamond Mine located in northern Ontario, 100 kilometres west of the community of Attawapiskat;

Whereas, the Minister of the Environment is of the opinion that an environmental assessment of the Victor Mine Extension Project is warranted in consideration of the potential for the Victor Mine Extension Project to cause adverse environmental effects as defined in section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, including: fish and fish habitat, migratory birds and with respect to Aboriginal peoples, the current use of lands and resources for traditional purposes;

Therefore, the Minister of the Environment, pursuant to subsection 14(2) of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, hereby designates the physical activity of the expansion of an existing diamond mine proposed by De Beers Canada Inc., which is linked to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, as the federal authority.
