BlackRock Mining Project - Public Comments Invited
July 3, 2014 - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency invites the public to comment on the Comprehensive Study Report on the BlackRock Mining Project, located in Quebec.
The Comprehensive Study Report includes the Agency's conclusions and recommendations regarding the implementation of mitigation measures and whether or not the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This is the third and final public comment period on the environmental assessment of this project. All comments received will be considered public. The Minister of the Environment will take into consideration the Comprehensive Study Report, along with comments received from the public and Aboriginal groups, and issue an environmental assessment decision statement.
This project is being assessed using a science-based approach under the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
The Proposed Project
BlackRock Metals Inc. is proposing the development of an iron, titanium, and vanadium mine with an estimated production capacity of 12.4 million tonnes of ore and 3 million tonnes of concentrate per year, located within the territory covered by the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, near Chibougamau. The project would include an open pit, an ore processing plant, tailings storage and impoundments, and the construction of a 26.6-kilometre railway track.
