Pierre River Mine Project – Federal Funding Allocated to Support Aboriginal Participation in Environmental Assessment

OTTAWA, July 21, 2014 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) today has allocated $60,000 among three Aboriginal group applicants to support their participation in the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Pierre River Mine Project located approximately 90 km north of Fort McMurray on the west side of the Athabasca River in Alberta.

This Aboriginal funding is allocated through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency and is intended to assist the participation of Aboriginal groups in the environmental assessment, specifically for preparation and participation in the public hearing.

A funding review committee, independent of the panel review process, was established to assess the requests for funding.
