Teck’s Castle Mine Project needs to have an independent review panel appointed to ensure that the best available science and independent experts are utilized during the assessment process. As well, public engagement needs to be made a priority throughout the process.

This project will have significant impacts on the already heavily polluted Elk Valley watershed further harming fish and aquatic species in the watershed. As well, this project will permanently destroy rare high elevation grassland that is critical winter range for Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. This project will close off an important wildlife migration corridor further impacting many species that are already seeing drastic population declines in large part due to habitat degradation and loss. An independent review panel is necessary to help ensure these issues are fairly and impartially considered during the assessment process.
