Put it underground in Riverside and Leslieville

I strongly support better public transit in our City, but please make the Province reconsider the City's request that they put the Metrolinx transit underground in Riverside and Leslieville. The plan will have a negative effect on countless homes and businesses... why wreck neighbourhoods? It takes years to develop a community, and mere weeks to tear it down.

But specifically speaking to the health effects, the constant noise of the above-ground trains would be very bad for physical and mental health. It would also further disturb the wildlife in the area. I'm also concerned that the effect of adding more diesel engine exhaust to the air may increase incidence of cancer and breathing disorders along the corridor.

I'm particularly concerned about the ravine up by Coxwell and Gerrard, called Williamson Park Ravine. This is a tiny oasis for a neighbourhood full of families, and is home to a number of species of birds and other wildlife, and a stopover for many more. The ecological balance in small urban "islands" such as this is very very delicate, and widening the track may destroy it. It will certainly cost the City hundreds of trees, including trees that are very very old. These are precious and can NEVER be replaced!

Ontario is ramming all this through at breakneck speed in a naked attempt to have something to show for their term before the next election. This is NOT the way to govern! Please step in and bring some sanity into this. Thank you.
