Building Rehabilitation - North Park Armoury, Canadian Forces Base Halifax

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which aims to continue to rehabilitate the Halifax Armouries, CFB Halifax, built 1895 to 1899. The Halifax Armouries, also known as the North Park Armoury (NPA), is a National Historic Site and a "Classified" Federal heritage building. The next phase of rehabilitation is twofold;

  1. Undertake the heritage conservation of the entire building envelope of the NPA, as well as the rehabilitation of integral building operating systems in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada. Pursuant to Treasury Board policy on the management of Real Property, this requirement is non-discretionary. The heritage conservation work will fulfill the department's obligations to preserve Canada's Federal built heritage.
  2. Renovate the NPA interior to current codes and standards to meet health and safety, sustainable guidelines and the operational requirements of the resident units: the Princess Louise Fusiliers, the Halifax Rifles, Canadian Forces Base Halifax Base Clothing Stores Detachment, and two Cadets units.

Latest update

August 10, 2022— The Department of National Defence issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
