Automated Weather Station Installation at Port Hardy Airport

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) plans to install a new Automatic Weather Station (AWS) at Port Hardy Airport (CYZT) in British Columbia, property of Transport Canada. The station will be installed in a fenced compound of 30 m by 30 m, located in an unused field 100m to the North of Newport Ave, and between Yew St., Hemlock and Byng Road (see Figure 1). Previously at the suggested location were Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) resident and support buildings.

The weather station will have concrete foundation bases to support the instruments and equipment. The depth of the concrete base is between 6 feet to 9 feet. Trenches will be used to run the power and signals cables between the bases and communication kiosk.
