To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing as a concerned resident of Pictou County to make known my opposition to the proposed Natural Gas Power Generation Facilities in Pictou County.
The report appears to be a desktop review. There is lacking exploratory based information on the impacts to the actual rural locations for these Power Plants.
One of the biggest concerns is the amount of water usage for cooling and cleaning (equivalent usage of 750 Rural Homes). Have alternative cooling solutions been explored? What were those solutions and what was the outcome?
The report indicates mitigation if local water quality and supply are impacted, but nothing indicates what those mitigations will be. Residents should have a clear understanding of what that plan is.
Is there a possibility of recycling the used water back into cooling the facility instead of releasing it into the environment?
The report also indicates water testing was taking place in December of 2025, but I have not found the results of that testing (nor details on what tests were being done).
In one breath the report states they will be a back up facility only operating when there are strains on the grid, and in the next it states they are to phase out the coal facility. Which is it?
The offshore NS pipeline is permanently shut off so we will be reliant on natural gas coming from the south either from or through the US – given the strained relationship with our neighbour to the south is it wise to put so much reliance on that as a source?
The sound and vibration generated will have impacts on the environment and residents nearest the facilities. Nothing indicates the actual long-term impacts from this type of Plant.
Rural Nova Scotia is known for its beauty and tranquility in nature. This will destroy 2 areas of Pictou County when there are valid alternatives to this proposed solution that would have less impact long term.
Thank you for your time
