Demolition of Abandoned Houses in Residential Area on North Spirit Lake First Nation

The Proposed Project

North Spirit Lake First Nation is proposing the construction of three (3) new homes (121 square metres each) to address the community's housing needs. Project activities include:

  • The demolition two (2) abandoned houses to clear the lots for two of the new homes. Note: Demolition is occurring within 30 metres of currently occupied residences;
  • Preparation of the lots for construction (i.e. grading, levelling and filling);
  • Construction of the new homes;
  • And connecting the homes to utility services such as the community's water/wastewater system and electrical distribution system.

This project will improve the living conditions of North Spirit Lake First Nation community members by providing safe housing that can accommodate the community's growing population.

Demolition of Abandoned Houses in Residential Area on North Spirit Lake First Nation – Public Comments Invited

 

April 29, 2024 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Demolition of Abandoned Houses in Residential Area on North Spirit Lake First Nation, located in North Spirit Lake First Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.
